Antique
COLUMBIAN Stationary Bench Vise No. 504 1/2 - 4 1/2" Jaws
- Made in USA
Pre-1920 era Columbian (Cleveland) bench vise, weighs in at 41#, 18 1/2" length in closed position and 7 3/4" height at jaws . The jaws are 4 1/2" wide and the vise opens ~6 1/2" with dynamic front jaw flush with rear of back jaw/base. Early style markings, jaw style with slight offset screws and base. Jaw faces appear to be original with reasonable condition on serrations and screw heads visible.
Historical note, this vise was recently rescued from an iron working shop that had been in operation since early 1900's. This shop's location is approximately 1.5 miles from Columbian's plant located in Cleveland, Ohio during the early 20th century. The now closed shop had several early Columbians that according to records were all acquired prior to 1930.
Vise has been inspected closely and is in overall very good condition, no cracks or repairs noted.
The vise has been cleaned enough to assess condition - identify marks, front jaw beam, etc.
Came to me with heavy grime and light surface rust, remains of two paint coats - green appears to be original with gray coat over. Moderate dings and scratches, but limited saw marks, gouges or weld splatter.
Handle has a few bends in it.
No functional problems and no lube has been applied to sliding parts. Please see all pictures for full condition details.
Vise will be carefully packed and shipped safely to buyer's location. I've successfully shipped over 30 large vises over the years and take great care to get them to destination without issues and zero damage.
Thank you for visiting and don't wait too long on this antique Columbian vise!
